What is Lignocaine 2% Gel used for​​​?

Lignocaine (also known as lidocaine) in the form of gel is used to numb parts of the body to relieve pain, itching or to prepare patients for certain medical procedures. It relieves pain by stopping the nerves from sending pain signals.

Lignocaine 2% provides prompt anesthesia of the mucous membranes, which gives long-lasting effective anesthesia of approximately 20-30 mins. The effect usually occurs rapidly within 5 minutes depending on the area of application.

Directions

Follow the instructions on the medication label and apply the medication as prescribed by your doctor. Do ensure to wash and clean your hands as well as the affected area (if required) after application to prevent transfer of the medication to others.

What are the possible side effects of this medication?

Mild and temporary irritation at the application site for example redness, and stinging. If any of these symptoms are persistent, you should stop and see a healthcare professional immediately.

• Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep this medication away from children. 
• Pack this medication into a black trash bag and seal it tightly before throwing into the rubbish chute or bin.
